A Peek into the Creationism Museum (a.k.a. God is Science Museum)

What does $27 million, a band of religious zealots, and a blatant denial of science get you in 2008? The Genesis Creation Museum located in Kentucky. This isn't a church. Its a museum that is presenting ideas of creationism as science. Yes, they actually present history as a fact of creation from god. Evolution? Terrible! Dinosaurs? Well, they lived along-side humans. Mass media? They have it out to destroy us all.

The museum has been open for a few years now, but I recently came across this article on the Daily Kos from last year that has some great images of the exhibits. I got a kick out of how the secular world is depicted -- a trashy graffiti-ridden neighborhood. Read the article yourself and check out the photos. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/6/9/105322/6744

From LiveScience.com:

A coalition of 17 organizations reacted today to the survey by calling on the scientific community to become more involved in promoting evolution and other aspects of science education.

The coalition, including the National Academy of Sciences, the American Institute of Physics and the National Science Teachers Association, released this statement:

"The introduction of 'non-science,' such as creationism and intelligent design, into science education will undermine the fundamentals of science education. Some of these fundamentals include using the scientific method, understanding how to reach scientific consensus, and distinguishing between scientific and nonscientific explanations of natural phenomena." (More...)

Wow! Who knew there were so many uneducated people out there? When people start using faith to explain the world around them, basic principles of science break down. Of course spirituality should be kept for each individual, but we should also search for the universal scientific version of our reality.
